The NSW Government has announced that the planning process for the Beaches Link and Gore Hill Freeway Connection will not proceed any further. This effectively cancels the project.
Member for Willoughby Tim James called for the Government to outline an alternative plan.
“This announcement needs to be accompanied by consideration of an alternative link to the Northern Beaches that is acceptable to the community, including full investigation of a metro rail link.” Mr James said.
“The problem that Beaches Link was trying to solve remains. Military Road and arterial roads through Willoughby remain congested.”
“The Government needs to suggest a suitable alternative, not just cut infrastructure investment to this part of Sydney”.
“Our community needs to see through traffic on our local roads reduced.”
“I’ve been a strong advocate for protecting Flat Rock Gully and I’m pleased that Flat Rock will not be utilised as a dive site.”
“I welcome the Government’s commitment to complete the Western Harbour Tunnel and Warringah Freeway Upgrade.”
“These projects will deliver tangible improvements to our daily lives once complete but as I’ve said it’s vital we get these projects right and working for us locally.”
“I will continue to strongly put the community’s concerns over filtration of ventilation outlets and the restoration of Cammeray Park and I will work with the new government to deliver an optimal outcome for all of us on these projects.” Mr James concluded.
