The Shadow Minister for Fair Trading and Building Tim James has thanked David Chandler for his outstanding service as Building Commissioner and welcomes James Sherrard as he prepares to step into the role, ensuring the momentum of reform continues.
Shadow Minister for Fair Trading and Building Tim James said, “Mr Chandler’s leadership drove meaningful reform that gave homeowners greater protection and peace of mind.”
“David Chandler got the job done. He took on the bad operators, raised the bar on building standards and gave homeowners the protections they deserve. He leaves behind a legacy of tougher oversight, greater transparency, and a sector that’s back on track.
Mr Chandler’s achievements include expanded powers to order defect repairs and the introduction of iCIRT star ratings, creating a more transparent and accountable industry. His work also brought insurers back into the market, with 10-year warranty policies now giving homeowners the security they need,” Mr James said.
The NSW Opposition will be watching closely to make sure the government stays on course. Homeowners and builders need stability, not backsliding.
The Opposition remains committed to supporting strong oversight and industry accountability, ensuring NSW continues to deliver safe, high-quality housing.
